Clear, pale silver with a bit of green. Clean, medium intensity citrus, pineapple, and dry grass/sage on the nose. Dry, high acidity and medium body. 2009 Paddy Borthwick Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc
Clear pale gold appearance. Clean, medium intensity aromas of asparagus and banana. Dry, high acidity light-plus body with intense citrus, sage, and vegetal notes. 13.8% alcohol. Good length. Overall good; an enjoyable drink, distinctive. $24 at Crosstown. See Borthwick Vineyard.
Spy Valley Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Clear, pale lemon-gold appearance. Clean, medium-plus intensity grapefruit nose with mineral notes. Dry with just a hint of residual sweetness; high acidity, light body, and intense tropical fruit, apple, and pear, with some floral qualities. Good length. 13.0% alcohol. Clear light gold with lemon tint. Clean, medium intensity nose with appealing floral and grapefruit-lemon aromas. Dry, high acidity, light-medium body; citrus dominates but is nicely balanced with mineral and spice. 13.5% alcohol. Good length. Overall very good; recommended. $34.90 at Crosstown.
Churton Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Clear, pale lemon-gold. Nose is clean, pronounced floral-spice with a nutty petrol quality. Dry with slightly muted acidity and light body. Green apple and pear predominate on the palate, smooth and well balanced with lime and a pleasing earthiness. 13.5% alcohol. Nice length. Overall good, recommended particularly at the price of $27.90 (from Marquis). See Churton Wines.
Hainle Vineyards 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Estate
Medium lemon-gold with a nice full apple, pineapple, and floral nose. Off-dry medium body and balanced ripe apple, pear, and a touch of honey on the finish. Very nice; Hainle is becoming one of my favourites (I recently enthused about their 2007 Riesling). Recommended. 13.5% alcohol. See Hainle Estate Winery.
