Apex 2006 Dry Riesling

Clear, light gold appearance. Clean, medium citrus-pear on the nose. A dry, low acidity, smooth, pear-green apple taste. Overall quite good. I haven’t tasted many Washington State wines, but on a recent trip to Seattle visited The Tasting Room in Post Alley, near Pike Place Market, tried a few, and was impressed. (Why doesn’t Vancouver have a wine tasting bar? Or a vegetarian restaurant like Carmelita or Café Flora? Or a bookstore like Elliot Bay? But I digress.) It doesn’t seem to me that Washington’s wine industry is as mature as BC’s, but I could be wrong. Anyway, worth checking out. See Apex Cellars.

  1. Liked that clean-tasting wine—unoaked for me always, please. (Snuck a little into a very ad-hoc and unusual agadashi tofu dipping sauce in the absence of anything else mirin-like to use.) As for the Seattle vegetarian restaurants, hopefully Radha will go more gourmet. Check out the the Radha Earthsave dine-out menu:

Date: Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 7 pm
    Location: Radha Yoga and Eatery
    728 Main Street, Vancouver

Those who lament the lack of gourmet vegan restaurants in Vancouver: look no further! Earthsave is thrilled to offer another dine-out at the now gourmet Radha Yoga and Eatery. Radha has also recently qualified as a member of Green Table, for restaurants taking measurable steps to reduce their impact on the environment. Not only did they qualify, the Green Table reviewer stated that she thought Radha would be setting the standard by example of what is possible for restaurants in Vancouver! This meal will be comprised of mainly organic and local ingredients. We will start with Mediterranean Navy Bean “Butter” with rosemary buckwheat and sunflower crackers. Sunset Soup with roasted red peppers, chipotle and fresh basil will follow. The entrée will be Spelt-Phyllo Purses with Crimini Mushrooms and Butternut Squash, qunioa pilaf, steamed fall greens, and warm apple and walnut sauce. The dessert will be Ginger Poached Pear with chai spiced hot chocolate ganache and lavender crisps. The price is a special one-time offer for Earthsave diners.
