Clear pale golden colour. Clean light floral nose with spice and green apple. Off-dry with medium body and acidity; again on the palate spice, peppery, with floral and lime notes. 13.5% alcohol, which is very apparent in the mouth. Medium length. Overall good; I’ve never tried this varietal before. $43.90 at Marquis. See Weingut Loimer.

Clear pale lemon-gold appearance. On the nose, clean medium intensity pear, pineapple, and buttery oak. Dry with medium-high acidity and light-medium body. Green apple, pineapple, and spice, with some oak notes. 13.5% alcohol. Good length, overall good. $21.90 at Marquee. See Bishop’s Peak.
Churton Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Clear, pale lemon-gold. Nose is clean, pronounced floral-spice with a nutty petrol quality. Dry with slightly muted acidity and light body. Green apple and pear predominate on the palate, smooth and well balanced with lime and a pleasing earthiness. 13.5% alcohol. Nice length. Overall good, recommended particularly at the price of $27.90 (from Marquis). See Churton Wines.
Dönnhoff Riesling Trocken 2006
Medium yellow-gold with a mineral-dominated honey nose. Dry with strong acidity and fairly light body; lemon dominates with earthy qualities but the fruitiness comes through. A very nice dry Riesling. 12% alcohol. $35.90 at Marquis Wine Cellars. See Weingut Dönnhoff (warning: heavy use of Flash on this site).
Albert Mann Cuvée Albert Riesling 2007
Medium-light yellow-gold. Nice citrus-mineral floral nose. Dry, very nicely balanced subtle lemon, apple, and pineapple with light acidity that falls off quickly in a beautiful finish. Recommended. 12.5% alcohol. $37.90 at Marquis Wine Cellars. See Domaine Albert Mann.
Blue Mountain 2006 Reserve Chardonnay
Haven’t had much Chardonnay recently. I’ve enjoyed the recent Blue Mountain Pinot Blanc (2008, 2009). This has a nice rich gold colour, and a straightforward, light apple nose with a hint of oak. Medium body dry, citrus predominating, nicely balanced with a bit of oak. Satisfying finish. Quite nice. 13% alcohol. $31.20 at Crosstown.

Hainle Vineyards 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Estate
Medium lemon-gold with a nice full apple, pineapple, and floral nose. Off-dry medium body and balanced ripe apple, pear, and a touch of honey on the finish. Very nice; Hainle is becoming one of my favourites (I recently enthused about their 2007 Riesling). Recommended. 13.5% alcohol. See Hainle Estate Winery.
