Light lemon-gold appearance. A bit of sweetness on the nose with notes of petrol and grass. Fine sweetness on the palette with excellent acidity and a slate-mineral quality. Very good. About $33 at Kitsilano Wine Cellar. See Bassermann-Jordan.

2005 Castle Rock Barrel Fermented Central Coast Chardonnay
Clear, deep gold colour. Oak-nut nose with hints of melon and grass. Dry, medium body with good acidity, but a slight disappointment on the palette. A little one dimensional, dominated by oak with citrus-pineapple notes. Nice finish. $25 at Kitsilano Wine Cellar. See Castle Rock Winery.
Olivier Leflaive 2004 Bourgogne Chardonnay
Clear, pale gold-silver appearance. Light oak vanilla nut nose. Lemon and green apple notes on the palette with just a tasteful hint of oak that lets the flavour dominate. Strong acidity and good length. A good wine, if a bit overpriced at $25, once more from Kitsilano Wine Cellar. See Olivier Leflaive.
